18thC lambing rocking chair

18thC lambing rocking chair

An 18th-century English lambing chair. Crafted from solid oak, this low rocking chair was traditionally used by shepherds while watching over their flocks during the lambing season. The seat height is just 24 cm (9.4 inches), allowing the shepherd to see beneath the sheep more easily while also sitting closer to the warmth of the campfire. This practical design also makes the chair an ideal and charming piece to place beside a fireplace. A fine example of traditional English country furniture, combining functionality with rustic character.
